Xi’an, the former capitol of China is situated roughly in the centre of China. Situated at the beginning of the Silk Road, Xi’an was founded in 202 BCE and has been at the heart of China ever since. The city is most famous for its museums, most importantly it is the site of the Terracotta Warriors, which is certainly on my “Must See” list. As they say “If you don’t visit Xi’an, you haven’t been to China”
In the heart of Xi’an is The Sofitel Legend People’s Grand Hotel Xi’an, which originally opened in 1953 as a state-run hotel for visiting Chinese leaders and foreign dignitaries.
Guests have included former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai, French President Francois Mitterrand and US diplomat Henry Kissinger.
Following extensive renovation and updating in 2014-16, the revitalised hotel reopened with 71 rooms and suites include Hermes toiletries and French-designed floral arrangements along with a personalized butler service. It is a hotel offering exemplary levels of service and elegance, a destination in its own right.
Set within 40,000m² of landscaped gardens in the city’s Renmin Square, the hotel offers a range of luxury facilities including include a private health club, swimming pool and spa, an authentic Italian restaurant, an exclusive top-floor Louis XIII Bar and a private museum. All-weather links provide easy access to the neighbouring Convention Centre and Grand Theatre.
